The Society was formed in Boston to encourage education and the appreciation of New England art history. The principal members were Charles D. Childs, John F. Bradley, Augustus Peabody Loring, Jr. and particularly Charles E. Mason, Jr. The Society's collection of New England prints, largely given by C.E. Mason were presented to the Boston Athenaeum after the society disbanded in 1949 to form the nucleus of the print collection. Records consist of minutes of meetings, treasurer's reports, annual reports and some correspondence.
